Habitat fragmentation, modification, and loss have been implicated in the decline of many species, including more than 85% of those considered threatened or endangered. Therefore, connectivity, or the ability of organisms to move among habitat patches, is a critical component of landscape health. Tribal nations are one of the most vulnerable populations to climate change in the United States, because of their reliance upon the natural environment to sustain traditional ways of life and current lack of training and resources to respond to climate change impacts. This project sought to increase south-central U.S. tribes’ basic knowledge of climate science, connect them with tools to assess their communities’ vulnerabilities, and build their skills to develop adaptation and mitigation strategies. This document recommends Best Practices for the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCPLCC) data1 management and delivery. The objective is to ensure and facilitate transparent access to scientific data and data products funded by the GCPLCC. A well-developed data management strategy has mutual benefits for the GCPLCC and the Principal Investigators (PI) of funded projects. The region within the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (Gulf Coast Prairie LCC) faces many challenges that threaten both wildlife and their habitat within this diverse landscape. The once extensive grassland system has been impacted by urban and agricultural development. Large river systems struggle to maintain watershed integrity and base flows. Coastal systems fight the effects of reduced freshwater inflows. Other threats, such as climate change, pollution, invasive species and disease, also put a strain on native species and habitats.
