In an effort to consolidate USGS hosted Wikis, myUSGS’ Confluence service is scheduled for retirement on January 27th, 2023. The official USGS Wiki and collaboration space is now SharePoint. Please migrate existing spaces and content to the SharePoint platform and remove it from Confluence at your earliest convenience. Habitat Improvement Module

Search Feature

1. From the HabITS 5 Dashboard, you will see various tabs at the top of the page. Searching for different HabITS data can be found under the Habitat Improvement and Strategic Planning tabs. From this page you can also search for a Mechanism, Project, or Accomplishment.


2. Hover your mouse pointer over the Habitat Improvement tab to see the search options available in the Habitat Improvement Module. From here, under the Feature Search category you can Search for a Mechanism, Search for a Project, Search for an Accomplishment, Search for a Focus Area, or File Search.

Searching for a Mechanism, Project, or Accomplishment

3. For this example, we’re going to search for a Mechanism. Start from the Habitat Improvement module on the HabITS V5 Dashboard and click Search for a Mechanism.


4. After clicking Search for a Mechanism, you will see a search box. From here you can choose many different way to search for a Mechanism. For this tutorial we have chosen to search by the Lead Office and for Mechanisms without geometry by typing the first few letters of the office name into the Lead Office search box and selecting No from the Has Geometry dropdown list. You should then see a list of Mechanisms you are searching for in the list below. Click on the Mechanism you would like to access.


5. After clicking on the Mechanism, a box will open showing more information. From here you can choose to view, edit, or delete the Mechanism.


6. Click More Actions in the bottom right corner of the box.  From here you can choose to create a New Project or view a detailed report of the Mechanism.

Search for a Focus Area

7. Next select Search for a Focus Area under the Feature Search of the Habitat Improvement Module.


8. The Focus Area Search will open a search box with criteria to select from. For this Tutorial, we will search for a Focus Area in the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program in Region 8 using the dropdowns in the Program and the Region boxes. You should then see a list of Focus Areas in the list below. Click on the Focus Area you would like to access.


9. After clicking on the Focus Area, a box will open showing more information. From here you can choose to view or edit the Focus Area.


10. Click More Actions in the bottom right corner of the box.  From here you can choose to view a Detail Report or Summary Report of the Focus Area.

Search for a File

11. Next, search for a file that has been uploaded to HabITS by selecting File Search to under the Feature Search of the Habitat Improvement Module.


12. In the File Search box you can filter in many different way to narrow your search for a file. For this tutorial we have chosen to search by the Point of Contact and Document Type by typing the first few letters of the point of contact name into the Point of Contact search box and selecting Photo from the Document Type dropdown list. You should then see thumbnails of the files with your search parameters below. Click on the file you would like to access.


13. A new window will open up with the File Details. You can View, Download, or Close the window by selecting from the buttons in the bottom right of the new window.


Search for a Strategic Plan Activity or Technical Assistance Activity

14. Now hover your mouse pointer over the Strategic Planning tab to see the options available in the Strategic Planning Module. From here, you can Search for a Strategic Plan Activity or Search for a Technical Assistance Activity, selecting either will take you to the Strategic Plan & Technical Assistance Activity Search screen.


15. Next, search for a strategic plan activity by selecting either Search for a Strategic Plan Activity or Search for a Technical Assistance Activity under the Strategic Plans section of the Habitat Improvement Module.


16. After clicking either the Search for a Strategic Plan Activity or the Search for a Technical Assistance Activity, you will see an search box. From here you can search with many parameters. For this tutorial we have chosen to search using Connect Youth to Nature and Technical Assistance from the Activity Type dropdown and Generation 3 from the Generation dropdown. You can select one or more in each of these dropdowns. Once your selections are made, you should see a list of Strategic Plan/Technical Assistance Activities filtered by the search parameters in the list below. Click on the Activity you would like to access.


17. After clicking on the Activity, a box will open showing more information. From here you can select view, edit or delete the Activity.
