Confluence Retirement

Due to the feedback from stakeholders and our commitment to not adversely impact USGS science activities that Confluence supports, we are extending the migration deadline to January 2023.

In an effort to consolidate USGS hosted Wikis, myUSGS’ Confluence service is targeted for retirement. The official USGS Wiki and collaboration space is now SharePoint. Please migrate existing spaces and content to the SharePoint platform and remove it from Confluence at your earliest convenience. If you need any additional information or have any concerns about this change, please contact Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

  • What day is Breakfast with Bill? Your agenda says Thursday but I saw an announcement for Friday.

Bill Werkheiser is holding a Breakfast with Bill (informal discussion with Bill Werkheiser, Director of the USGS) with the CDI workshop on Thursday, May 18, from 7:30-8:30am, immediately before the DataBlast. The next day, Friday, he is holding another Breakfast with Bill for the Denver Metro Area.

  • What's a DataBlast?

A DataBlast is an informal poster and demo session. Its origins are from a similar "MapBlast" event at conferences. The CDI has been holding DataBlasts since its first events in 2009.

  • What should I bring with me?
    1. A laptop or other device. We will be using different online collaborative apps to capture notes, take polls, collect questions from the audience in the plenaries and breakouts, and push out the latest information about the workshop. To participate fully, you may want to bring your laptop, tablet, or other device.

    2. Digital or paper copies of information you need from the digital meeting packet. We will send a digital meeting packet about one week before the meeting, and won’t be printing out piles of hardcopy information. Please bring digital or paper copies of what you need, or plan to view them online.
    3. A mug. Help us cut down on waste by bringing a reusable mug or cup for beverages.
  • Will there be options for virtual participation?

Yes, we will post WebEx links for most plenary presentations and for breakout sessions that request it. Watch the Virtual Participation Page for details.

  • How do I register?

If you have indicated your interest in attending in the USGS Conference Database, or by emailing us (for non-USGS participants), you should have received an email message from Leslie Hsu with instructions on how to complete your formal registration, and should have received an EventBrite invitation before 4/10/17. If you have any questions, email

  • How do I indicate that I want to bring a poster to the DataBlast, attend a training, or contribute a Lightning talk?

You can mark these preferences during registration on the EventBrite site. If you do not see the option you are looking for, email to reach Leslie Hsu and Madison Langseth, the workshop organizers.

  • Are there any special instructions for the USGS Concur (CGE) system?

Use the purpose code "Mission Operational" and use the Conference Unique Identifier 6762.  USGS employees complete your travel voucher within 5 days of the last day of the conference. You might find additional useful information in an email from Lydia Rivera.

  • Do I need to keep the USGS Conference Database up to date? I received conflicting information from different emails.

3/30/17: We checked on this and you do NOT need to update the conference database.  You may disregard any instruction to do that.
