Forum Usage Protocol
This forum is being used as a better way for members to have a conversation, in lieu of broadcast messages via large email lists (many of whose members do not want to be peppered w/the back and forth of a dialog). It is also used to archive all-CDI emails.
So far, a couple of individual working groups have experimented with forums (see list at bottom of page), but the greater CDI hasn't really settled on a mode of communication.
As we move to a CDI-forum, we are sorting out whether certain lines of discussion belong here or in a sub-forum, or whether all forum content should be centralized here (perhaps w/curated labels to help with filtering). Any input welcome!
CDI members may 1) create a new topic, 2) make a new comment, 3) reply to a comment, or 4) edit their own comments. Suggested protocol is to segment one thought per comment. Please try to avoid redundant content. If you are responding to a comment, be sure to "reply" to it so your comment is properly sorted and indented within the flow of comments (i.e., don't put text about a comment in the middle of the page into the comment box at the bottom, b/c your text will show up at the bottom and others won't know what you're replying to!). Note you can always delete or modify your comments. Folks who want to follow the discussion for a "Post" can visit/refresh the page a lot, or press the "Watch" button. Users can always turn "Watch" off if they tire of the discourse. Additionally, members can "Watch" the whole forum.
We are happy to work with interested parties to collect, curate, and collaborate on this some more! We are proposing to digest new posts once a week for a broadcast email. Feel free to make a "Post" commenting on this!
