About Us

Who We Are

Our group is open to anyone (including USGS employees across mission areas and disciplines and non-USGS/non-federal employees) who is interested in data visualization practices, techniques, and projects.

What We Do

The Data Visualization Collaboration Area, as part of the USGS's Community for Data Integration, was founded to serve as a professional hub and creative home to promote open data visualization trainings and discussions.

We hope to foster a creative, collaborative community of people who come to data vis from a variety of backgrounds with any set of design tools.

As we grow, we plan to:

  • Host events where members can connect and learn from each other
  • Invest in communication platforms like Team Channels to help us share skills, knowledge, ideas, and meaningful critique
  • Encourage new and underrepresented voices as the USGS grows its data visualization community.

We recognize that everyone will have their own favorite set of tools.  So, we hope to focus on supporting members as they practice their own process of data visualization.
