In lieu of a face to face meeting this year, the Community for Data Integration (CDI) hosted a 1 day Webinar Meeting to engage and inform the Community and partners about the CDI Science Support Framework, FY12 projects currently underway, and plans for FY13. Participants learned about a variety of CDI science support activities, products, and tools through presentations and demonstrations that highlighted best practices, applications, and approaches for data integration.
The Community for Data Integration (CDI) is a dynamic aggregation of multiple communities of practice, focused on the advancement of scientific data and information management and integration capabilities across the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). On July 17 and 18 some of the many representatives from across the USGS who participate in the CDI were in Reston to showcase examples of CDI-supported projects and the science data management and integration products that have resulted from them.
Kevin T. Gallagher (Associate Director, Core Science Systems) and Linda Gundersen(Director, Office of Science Quality and Integrity), Executive Sponsors of the CDI invited the USGS Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and USGS staff in Reston to visit the CDI DataBlast to meet and talk with our scientists, view their posters and try out some of the live demos! The ELT members participated as well as more than 75 attendees from across USGS and other organizations. The sessions garnered very positive feedback on the products and tools presented and offered a great opportunity to highlight the value of CDI. Visitors to the event had the opportunity to learn how USGS science benefits from CDI-supported projects and find out how they can participate in the CDI!
