Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, uses ShakeCast within its Emergency Management Department as a way to maintain situational awareness among its nationwide network of trucks, stores, and distribution centers. At the company’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Alarm Central, ShakeCast is used along with numerous other tools to assist Walmart in emergency preparation and recovery.

In the event of an earthquake, such as those in Japan, Oklahoma, and Virginia, ShakeCast has been effective in providing a rapid preliminary assessment, including real-time information on shaking intensity and potential damage levels at affected facilities. The system also allows Walmart to prioritize its emergency response and distribution of aid without waiting for communications from an on-site inspection of impacted facilities.
