Island Conservation

Definition: Chose this option if the project is located on an island or directly benefits an island (e.g., wave break for a barrier island), and provide a brief description of how the project benefits the island ecosystem. Recognizing the importance of island ecosystems, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service along with Island Conservation and other partners adopted the Island Restoration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote conservation on islands. Although this MOU specifically focuses on invasive species, the Service is documenting all our conservation activities on islands.

Use: This information will support interagency information requests, as well as outreach materials.

Ocean/MarineDefinition: Chose this option if the project is done in a marine or tidal environment (NOTE: waters of the Great Lakes are considered marine), and/or if the primary project purpose is to benefit a marine ecosystem or species.  Provide a brief description of how the project benefits the marine ecosystem/species. Consider describing how the project may have social or cultural benefits as well (e.g., improved fishing). Some project examples include; oyster reefs, coral reefs, sea grass beds, and mangroves.  Other projects could include those done within a Coral Reef Task Force watershed, marine debris removal, or projects done specifically for a marine species (e.g. fish passage projects for salmon).

Use: This information will support interagency reporting requirements on marine debris, ocean acidification, marine mammals, and US Coral Reef Task Force working groups, as well as to outreach materials.

Hunting & Fishing (SO3356)SO3356 pertains to hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and wildlife conservation opportunities and coordination with states, tribes and territories.  For our purposes we are only tracking hunting and fishing.   If your accomplishment is on land where the landowner allows hunting and fishing you will choose this SO option.  If the hunting and fishing is public accessible then you will check the public box.  If the hunting and fishing is not open to the public but there are special activities such as a youth fishing derby or a hunting club then that would be explained in the special activities comment box.
Migration Corridors (SO3362)

SO3362 pertains to improving habitat quality in winter range and migration corridors for specific western big-game (listed in the subtype field).  If you are in one of the 11 western states (AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA or WY) this secretarial order could pertain to you.  Although there is funding tied to this secretary order, there are times you may do related work that is not funded.

Funded - In order to identify and track which accomplishments were paid for with the specific funding, a naming convention will be applied.  "SO3362-(Name of the State)(Type of Restoration), For example: SO3362-Colorado Wildlife Friendly Fencing.  You would also choose this SO option for your accomplishment and list which big game species is benefited.  In the financials section of your accomplishment you will choose SO3362-1121 as the Special Funding Category.

Not Funded -  If there is SO3362 related work being done on your accomplishment BUT none of the special funding is used, you will NOT use the naming convention but will still choose the SO option and list which big game species is benefited.
