Confluence Retirement

In an effort to consolidate USGS hosted Wikis, myUSGS’ Confluence service is scheduled for retirement on January 27th, 2023. The official USGS Wiki and collaboration space is now SharePoint. Please migrate existing spaces and content to the SharePoint platform and remove it from Confluence at your earliest convenience. If you need any additional information or have any concerns about this change, please contact myusgs@usgs.gov. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

An "Exit Survey" document was introduced as an idea at the 2011 CDI face-to-face meeting. Several people have looked at it from a Records Management and a Policy perspective. It's a good time to contribute to the document from a Data Management perspective.

An Exit Survey draft document has already been developed - the idea is to be able to use this guidance as an appendix to appropriate Survey Manual chapters, and post on the USGS Data Management Website.

A new working group was established in early 2014 to help create a new Exit Survey that would be used when scientists or other staff are leaving the Survey.  At this time, there is no way to capture information about data and information that is being left behind. Frequently this information is stored in a box or on a hard drive, eventually stored in the corner of someone's office or storage room (or the garbage!), all without any supplemental information on these items.  This group would like to ensure that the data and information left behind has some identifying information and metadata so that it can be discovered and reused.
