Workshop Goals
What are the workshop goals?
- The USGS is hosting a series of Mapping Innovation events, including regional and virtual workshops to discuss challenges and opportunities in mapping at USGS.
- From the series organizing team: "We want to get as many ideas as possible in a clear and concise way but focused on current and/or needed innovations in mapping that are common across USGS."
- For the CDI-Theme workshop, we will facilitate a discussion on Data Interoperability, Data Discovery and Sharing, and Communication and Visualization.
Who should attend:
- Many of the other workshops will have a regional theme and be held in person, but the Community for Data Integration is hosting a virtual workshop for
- anyone who isn't able to attend the other workshops
- CDI members
- anyone would like to discuss CDI-Theme topics
Why should you attend?
- Workshop discussions will be compiled in a report, therefore, by participating, you will be able to communicate your challenges, needs, and opportunities to the USGS leadership for consideration in future USGS directions.
- In the introductory section, you will get a chance to learn about resources and projects relating to mapping supported by the Community for Data Integration.
Pre-workshop
- Register for the Workshop
- Your registration information will help us plan for the workshop.
- Review the workshop themes and questions (Internal link for Dept of Int users)
- Optional: Submit a Mapping Innovation Success Story. (Download the template) (If you do not use Powerpoint or a compatible application, just be sure to include the information on the list below.)
By submitting a slide, you can spread the word about projects, tools, and resources that contribute to innovative mapping at the USGS.
NOTE: You may alternatively/in addition submit to the "Share your Mapping Innovation" google site, but we thought the one-slide option would be a nice compilation and contribution from our workshop.
Send your slide to cdi@usgs.gov. They will be compiled and made available as part of the workshop outcomes.
A template will be provided here for one slide consisting of
- Title,
- Point of Contact, (person name, email)
- URL or citation
- One sentence description of the project or success story.
- One sentence description of biggest mapping challenge overcome or in progress.
- Graphic
