The National Map Corps editor is going offline July 9th to make way for our new and improved web map editor coming in early August!
If you tried to go to our editor and ended up here, have no fear! Our new editor (at a new web address) will be coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled for an email coming in early August with more information. And, if you just can’t wait, check out our June newsletter for more information on what is to come.
Here’s a sneak peek at the new editor:
New to The National Map Corps?
TNMCorps is a crowdsourcing mapping program with volunteers successfully editing structures in all 50 States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Structures are one of the layers in The National Map and include schools, hospitals, post offices, police stations, cemeteries, and other important public buildings.
Using a web-based mapping editor TNMCorps volunteers collect and/or improve structures data by adding new features, removing obsolete points, and correcting existing data. You do not need to live in available states to participate. Our editing guidelines explain how you can contribute data from anywhere.
Both newly collected and modified point features become part of the USGS National Structures Database, The National Map, and ultimately U.S. Topo Maps. Anyone with an interest in contributing can volunteer. Through their participation, volunteers are making significant contributions to the USGS's ability to provide the Nation with accurate mapping information.
It is easy to sign up and get started!! All you need is access to the internet, an email address, and a willingness to learn. However since we are currently transitioning to a new editor, check back here in early August for more information on how to get started editing using our brand new editor!
WHAT WOULD I BE DOING IF I PARTICIPATE?
You would be using our online map editor to edit USGS structures data by updating existing features, adding new features, and removing obsolete features. You can choose what types of structure features to edit (from our list of structures) and edit in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands!
