Professional Societies in HD

International Environmental Communication Association: Founded in 2011, this is an association of scholars, teachers, practitioners, and organizations whose mission is fostering and inspiring communication that alleviates environmental issues and conflicts, solves the problems that cause them. IECA brings together students, professionals, and organizations who share these goals. The professional journal Environmental Communicatio: A Journal of Nature and Culture is part of IECA.

International Association for Society and Natural Resources: This society is an interdisciplinary professional association open to individuals who bring a variety of social science and natural science backgrounds to bear on research and application strategies pertaining to the environment and natural resource issues. IASNR hosts an annual meeting (International Symposium on Society and Resource Management) and publishes the journal Society & Natural Resources about 12 times a year.

International Social Science Council: This organization was established by UNESCO in 1952 in order to represent social, economic, and behavioral sciences at an international level with the mission of increasing the production and use of social science knowledge for the well-being of societies throughout the world. Membership is open to professional associations, unions, regional and national science research councils, and universities and institutes with major interests in the social sciences.

Climate Change Communication: This organization uses social science research to find ways of effectively engaging the public and policy makers to address the problem and considering and enacting solutions. The mission is to conduct unbiased public engagement research and help government agencies, non-profit organizations, and companies apply the results of this research so that we collectively stabilize our planet's life sustaining climate. Climate Change Communication also maintains a database of academic articles called Talking Climate Change.

Society for Human Ecology: An international interdisciplinary professional society that promotes the use of an ecologicalperspective in research, education, and application. Society for Human Ecology publishes the profesional journal Human Ecology Review.

Society for Conservation Biology: SCB is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. Members of this society come from a wide range of resource managers, educators, government and private conservation workers, and students. They also publish the journal Conservation Biology six times a year.
