A Review and Synthesis of Recreation Ecology Research Supporting Carrying Capacity and Visitor Use Management Decisionmaking

Short Description

The impact of visitor use on wilderness and backcountry settings can't be understood solely through the context of "carrying capacity". There is a more complex set of factors that determines how visitor use impacts an ecosystem. As such, scientists and managers have developed more comprehenvisve frameworks which pull from a variety of management strategies and actions. This article reviews the most recent (as of May 2016) findings about recreation ecology in order to inform visitor use management and policy.
