Publication and Source
Published through UNESCO Publishing from the International Social Science Council.
Society is confronted with environmental challenges unprecedented in magnitude, scope, pace, and complexity. The potentially serious consequences are already visible in communities struggling to maintain their delicate social, economic, and political structure. Symptoms of these consequences include persistent poverty, increased social discontent, and changes in support systems. Over 150 authors contribute to this report which calls for action and more efficient collaboration in the international social science community in conjunction with decision-makers, practitioners, and other people who act on social science research.
- Bolder: reframe and reinterpret global environmental change and a fundamentally social process.
- Better: Infuse social science insights into real-world problem-solving.
- Bigger: More social scientists need to directly address the challenges of global environmental change.
- Different: Change the way social scientists think about and do science to help meet the interdisciplinary challenges society faces.
