Economic Impacts of Ecosystem Restoration [Folder View]

Federal investments in ecosystem restoration projects protect Federal trusts, ensure public health and safety, and preserve and enhance essential ecosystem services. These investments also generate business activity and create jobs. The Economic Impacts of Ecosystem Restoration project aims to increase the availability of information on the costs and activities associated with ecosystem restoration, and to gauge the economic effects of these investments to local economies. This website provides case studies of Department of Interior (DOI) restoration projects associated with Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) cases, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and National Park Service (NPS) lands and resources. The case studies demonstrate how investments in ecosystem restoration support jobs and livelihoods, small businesses, and rural economies, and tell personalized stories about each project and the communities that are positively affected by restoration activities. The economic impacts of ecosystem restoration project is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey Social and Economic Analysis Branch, the DOI Natural Resource Damage Assessment Restoration Program, DOI Office of Policy Analysis, and the BLM Socioeconomics Program.
