This project involves a web-based application and information resource focused on ecosystems, energy, and water in northwestern Colorado. The project will be developed and implemented in partnership with land and resource managers and will compliment ongoing and proposed work to support data and information management needs in the region. Representative on-going efforts and entities involved include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative studies, Bureau of Land Management Rapid Ecoregional Assessments, Americas Great Outdoors Initiative, WaterSMART, Upper Colorado Endangered Fish Recovery Program, Yampa River Legacy Project, Soil Landscape Geochemistry Project, Sage Grouse State-wide Planning, Working Land for Wildlife, Yampa/White River Basin Roundtable, U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, Dinosaur National Monument, USGS Water Quality and Quantity Evaluations, Mineral and Energy Assessments, and various state and local agency efforts.
The proposed demonstration project (a web based information resource allowing content management and interaction by various partners) among federal, state, and local entities will facilitate stewardship by providing information related to ecosystems and wildlife habitat, energy development activity, and water resources.
The proposed work will focus on the dual goals of making issue-driven scientific information available and developing initial analytical products that address management needs. The primary product of this project will be a web-based application that synthesizes existing scientific information on water, energy, and ecosystems. A community portal for this effort will be established in ScienceBase, allowing partners to store, share, and discover data and information resources, which may be served via services to various applications. The ScienceBase portal, web application, and example analytical products will be completed in less than 12 months.
