Conclusions: Soil texture, native prairie and grassland cover, and proximity to linear disturbances affect habitat suitability for burrowing owls. Native prairie coverage was considered the most critical variable in determining the most suitable habitat. This dataset represents a species known range extent for Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) within the conterminous United States (CONUS) based on 2001 ground conditions. This range map was created by attributing sub-watershed polygons with information of a species' presence, origin, seasonal and reproductive use. See Gap Analysis Project Species Range Maps for more information regarding data creation and user constraints. For species specific range information, see the attached Range data.
This map shows the potential current distribution of Burrowing Owl, in the context of current and near-term terrestrial intactness and long-term potential for climate change and energy development.

This dataset represents a species known range extent for Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea) within the conterminous United States (CONUS) based on 2001 ground conditions. This range map was created by attributing sub-watershed polygons with information of a species' presence, origin, seasonal and reproductive use. Conclusions:Owls avoided agricultural lands (due to prey availability), used grass-forb areas for foraging, and avoided croplands and grazed pasture. 95% of all movements occurred within 600 meters of the nest burrows.Thresholds/Learnings:At a minimum, a 600m radius should be maintained around burrowing owl nests in order to ensure the survival of burrowing owls

This map combines the predicted distributions (whenever possible) and the spp. occurrences (from the FNAI element occurrence database when we don't have a predicted distribution) for the 16 species included in the Wildlife Best Management Practices. The 2011 Prairie Dog Habitat Suitablity Model was developed by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture using an additive ranking method of six variables based on expert opinion: soil range site, soil psammency, depth to water table, slope, land cover, and wetlands/hydrology. Many variables in the 2011 model are based on a previous 2004 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC) Model developed by GIS Workshop in 2003.
We created ADAPT to help partners make science-informed decisions related to species and habitat prioritization across the Southwest United States. We used Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation (INLA) to analyze the data at a 1-km resolution. We used climate and land use change data generated from CMIP 6 climate models. Count data were from eBird surveys and converted to presence/absence data for analysis. BISON data is a clearing house that contains data from a variety of sources such as: state, university, and national museum collections; Cornell eBIRD database; iNaturalist; etc.
The Commission on Environmental Cooperation, in concert with a trinational group of experts, has identified North American species of common conservation concern (SCCC). These terrestrial and marine species comprise a group of important migratory, transboundary and endemic species selected from among the continent’s great wealth of wild flora and fauna, which require regional cooperation for their effective conservation.
The Colorado Plateau Rapid Ecoregional Assessment (REA) website has links to the components of the final report. This project utilizes projected visualization of land cover conditions for the state of Florida at three future time periods. Simulated projected future conditions also vary by patterns in development, levels and types of conservation, and sea level rise.
